PHP - Date and Timestamp manipulation

how can I handle a date prior to January 1st, 1970. I mean, if I have to find the weekday for January 1st, 1960, how am I gonna do that. with dates after 1970, its no problem as I can do it using date() and mktime() functions... but I can't figure out how to deal with dates prior to January 1st, 1970.

or maybe if there's anyway to change this default php date of January 1st, 1970, it can also solve my problem.

Have you tried using negative numbers?

Negative numbers are not allowed in the date function.

But they are in the mktime function.
If you give the year as '-2' you'll get a date in 1968.

A little know fact is that numbers that are 'too big' are allowed too,
like 34565 for the seconds will give you date of 34565 seconds later.

Yes.... I did it the first time... but it gives error... besides, the timestamp of any date prior to 1-1-1970 through mktime() is -1, so it doesn't solve the problem.

ok!! guys... I've found a solution that we can deal with a date prior to 1-1-1970 through GregorianToJD() function, that returns us the date in days since somewhat like 1473 BC. let me know if it is feasible to use this function.
