Force download in mac

Hi there,

I have been trying to find the solution to downloading files such as JPEG's on Mac and can only find this solution.

Let PC users download the images in many of the available ways but for mac users, make a tar file of the image first (unix command line "tar - cvf imagefile.tar imagefile.jpg") and let them download that. Stuffit will then untar it when it has come down and present the user with the original file.

Tar is not compression so happens very fast on the server and the client. the only downside is they are left with the original file and the tar file but hey, blame microsoft!

There is no need to compress JPEG files as they are already compressed. If you attach a .jpg suffix to them, you should be able to ship them to any computer (including a mac) with no problem.

If you need, macs can uncompress .zip, .tar, .sit, .hqx files using Stuffit.

is the problem you're experiencing that mac browsers will display the jpg rather than download it when the link is clicked? you can force the header to octet-stream to force a download and that should work.

I need to download images to disk rather than browse them. Does this work for all files (i.e) wuicktime?
