Include() error

I am working with IIS and Windows 2000. I am probably missing some fundamentals of finding directories because I get this error;
Warning: Failed opening '../login/checklogin.php' for inclusion (include_path='')

I have two directories in the root of my site;
login and diary

I try to include a file called checklogin.php in the login directory when running a script from the diary directory. In the beginning of the script in the diary directory I have this line;

include("../login/checklogin.php");

isn't that right? Would be glad for answers!

Does windows understand the "../" bit?
shouldn't that be "..\" in windows?

Actually, windows does understand '/'. Even DOS did, it's only the command shells (command.com, cmd.exe, progman, explorer, etc) that don't.

If I understand the original question correctly, it may be a path problem. If 'include' is under the webserver document root, and we're talking about a file in the root, you should be asking for 'login/checklogin.php' i.e. without the ../

Thanks, but do anyone have a working example of how to write? I can't get it to work. 🙁 My root of this website lies in c:/web/the-replay/ and the include lies in login/checkvisit.php.

My nonworking configuration right now is;
include("login/checkvisit.php");
and
include_path ="c:/web/the-replay/"
