GNU Emacs with the PHP Lisp mode....
Wonderful tool.... Automatically highlights syntax and will show you if brackets are "uneven".

But thats just me 🙂

I recommend TextPad (www.textpad.com). It does syntax highlighting as well as bracket matching.

I have been using services from dotcos.com, they have php4.0.6 running with built-in support for almost all module one would ever need. I have used various host providers but for the past 1 year i have come to appreciate these guys' to-notch support and service. Many of my friends too have been using their service.

I'm fond of EditPlus for Windows. (Look it up on Download.com) Syntax highlighting, of course, and you can work on the server with the integrated FTP.
