Hello folks,

Can anyone help ?

What tools are required in order to create a browser integrated site such as AOL.

Has anyone attempted to do this ?

Can anyone offer any insights or guidance?

Are you talking about the AOL service? This isn't actually a web site, it's an actual application that lives on a user's hard drive. At the point the use goes to visit the web, the AOL application starts a stripped down version of the user's IE installation within the client.

What language is this application written in?, are there other alternatives?,what are the relative merits?

You mentioned that the application invokes a stripped down version of the clients IE ,how does it do this? Are there any legalities to be concerned about?

Any further insights from Rick or the group would be kindly appreciated.

Paul,
The language that you would use to write something like this depends on the platform you intend to run it with. I believe the MS Visual programming packages offer browser integration (or at least they did the last time I looked at VisualBasic5) I'm not sure what is available as far as compiled applications that allow you to integrate web browsing. Keep in mind that this would also require distributing whatever compiled application to your end users. I'm sure you could create a similar look and feel within a web page, depending on what your specific objectives are.

Thanks for your comments rick. I have a couple of VB6 books on my shelf that need dusting.

I have been working on a project that is almost near completion and will be launched as a beta early next month.

I no longer have any doubt that it will shape the internet indeed to a lot of people it will become the internet and it will be an important step towards integrating the internet into our lives.
