PHP & Excel and Word files

Is any utilite or algorithm for reading and writing data to Microsoft documents with the use of PHP?

Well with the new PHP4 they have built in some new functions that do this sort of thing. You can do this through COM objects. You have to be running (as near as I can tell) php4 on a windows platform to do this. I have not found many examples of this utilized (even the manual has an incouraging ??? after each funtion 🙂 ), but I did find a COM example on the Zend website

this should help you get started in creating a word document. Or a similar miscrosoft documents.

But I use PHP under Unix. I'm from Ukraine and almost all ISP's use Unix based servers here.

As far as I know then this is not possible to do under Unix platforms. I run Linux myself, so I usually have to convert a Word Doc into something else or an Excel sheet to cvs etc... I have heard rumors of Perl Libraries but nothing concrete. If you do find out how to do it without COM and Windows pls tell me 🙂... Good luck!
