Getting Fopen to write to top of file

I'd like to have fput write text to the top of the file without erasing the original content of the file.

Currently I have fopen ("$filename", "aw"); , however the file pointer is still placed to the end of the file.

hi, all you have to do it put in 'r+' instaed of whatever else you have.. this will point to the start of the file and write to it!

thanks for the reply, i've tried r+ but fputs truncates the file.. is there a possible way to put the file pointer in the header and yet not erase the original contents in the file?

sorry dude can't really help much more this is all i know :
'r' - Open for reading only; place the file pointer at the beginning of the file.

'r+' - Open for reading and writing; place the file pointer at the beginning of the file.

'w' - Open for writing only; place the file pointer at the beginning of the file and truncate the file to zero length. If the file does not exist, attempt to create it.

'w+' - Open for reading and writing; place the file pointer at the beginning of the file and truncate the file to zero length. If the file does not exist, attempt to create it.

'a' - Open for writing only; place the file pointer at the end of the file. If the file does not exist, attempt to create it.

'a+' - Open for reading and writing; place the file pointer at the end of the file. If the file does not exist, attempt to create it.

Note: The mode may contain the letter 'b'. This is useful only on systems which differentiate between binary and text files (i.e. Windows. It's useless on Unix). If not needed, this will be ignored.
