Malfunctioning *mail*

Hi all,

I wrote a script that registers users into a mysql database. The entire script runs perfectly except for the successful registration email that is supposed to be sent. My problem is...It doesnt send! I can't figure out what's wrong with this one line of code:

mail($theemail, "Hogwarts eXtreme Registration", $theusername."\n\nThank you for registering at Hogwarts eXtreme, the ULTIMATE Harry Potter RPG! Your account information is as follows:\n\nUsername:".$theusername."\nPassword:".$thepassword."\n\nYou can access Hogwarts eXtreme at http://rpg.harrypotterfun.com, and be sure to visit http://www.harrypotterfun.com for the latest Harry Potter news and updates!\n\nThanks for joining!\n-Hogwarts eXtreme Staff");

And our variables (for the sake of this example)...

$theemail="[e-mail]";
$theusername="Someone";
$thepassword="thisisthepword";

All information is verified and trimmed before processing and sending this email. I just don't understand why the email is not being sent.

Any ideas?

I think The problem isn't your
script, but the Sendmail Server

if ur at Unix/linux platform
just for test try $theemail='root@localhost';

if this work fine than we can confirm
that the probleme is under ur Sendmail server

2ns possibility : the user APACHE can't send mail --> in this case u must view check
ur Apache configuration

$1.25 says you are on windows and you

1) didn't configure the SMTP
2) don't know what an SMTP is
3) your ISP SMTP doesn't allow you to send mail unless you login first
4) your ISP doesn't like harry potter

Looks like you owe me $1.25:

• Im on unix. Not windows:

1) It was not a sendmail problem, i returned before the mail statement was executed. It just took so extra looking over.
2) smtp=simple mail tool protocol
3) isp is internet service provider, NOT my host so:
3(a)) I'm not sure what you mean by logging in using the mail function does not require you to login (as far as i know).
4) I could careless whether my HOST likes harry potter or not.

You can send my my $1.25 through check or money order 😉.

by ISP i meant the provider of the internet to your server... same as host, but 1 character less.

i did have the logging in problem with telocity... on a windows 2000 server, i had to use telocities smtp, but the problem is, you can't send mail until you first check your mail... so using mail() wouldn't work until someone on the IP would check the telocity account, and then it would only work for a short time. solution was to setup my own smtp on that box.
