You can also try: set_time_limit()

Set the number of seconds a script is allowed to run. If this is reached, the script returns a fatal error. The default limit is 30 seconds

When called, set_time_limit() restarts the timeout counter from zero. In other words, if the timeout is the default 30 seconds, and 25 seconds into script execution a call such as set_time_limit(20) is made, the script will run for a total of 45 seconds before timing out.

set_time_limit(0) means no time limit for the script execution.

that's why the @ sign sucks, it supresses the error and does nothing about the problem.

The timeout error you get is not from FTP, it's from PHP who is set to run scripts for 30 seconds only. If it takes longer, PHP cut's the script off. You can't print anything after this error because the script stops.

Read the PHP manual about setting the timelimit higher.

Maybe your script put too much data in the output buffer.
Try to put a "flush()" at the end of every iteration, and a "usleep(1000)" to make a little delay.
I do this, and now i get no error.
