Display latest 5 entries

How & where do I include a code to show the lastest 5 entries that need to be displayed.
$i=0;$i<5;i++
I think its something in the way of the above syntax,,,,,but not really sure or where to include it. help needed urgently....very new to php....thanks again.

I need a code that will allow me to display only the last 5 entries that have been added to a list.
I only need the last 5 addresses to display on the front page not everyone who has added there address to my list.
Does that make sense.
I have been doing php for a month....I am very new, so I hope this makes more sense.

What kind of list? Is it a textfile? is it
in a database? is it in a PHP array?
