winnt user authentication

I am running a site on our intranet and I want now to give a login to certain parts of the site. Im running php4 on windows with Apache and mysql. I want that the users be authenticated with their login and passwords that they use to login into the win network.

Is this possible and how?

AFAIK it's not possible if you're running Apache. As a security feature, Apache does not have access to any of the servers system or user accounts. I believe it's possible to access Win32 user accounts if you use IIS though, seems like a hole that IIS would leave open🙂 As for how you'd actually do it using IIS..... I can't help you since I've never had to do it.

Yea, it's a no-go in Apache but in IIS:

right click on server to get Web Site Properties dialog, click on 'Directory Security' tab, uncheck anonymous access and check 'Integrated Windows Authentication'.

You can get the user's id and computer through env. vars...use phpinfo() to figure out what those vars are.
