After user types in response from a if statment they have to click on the button for there response to be accepted because I use an onclick command.

I want there response to be accepted with pressing the enter key, not using the mouse.

What do you mean by 'if statement'?

the enter-key is default for most browsers.
Get rid of the onclick and use the normal submit button.

And lastly, this is a PHP forum, for PHP questions. you will get better answers if you ask Javascript questions on a javascript forum.
