merging variables and text

hi all

i am making a new website for my floorball team and i want to enable some administrators to insert and edit news... after a while i discovered that i had twodifferent .php files doing almost the same thing. the only diff. was that one handled website news and one handled news about the club.

instad of having it that way, i made one file which, att he beginnig, checks what kind of news the admin. wants to insert or edit. based on that i set a variable ($functionName) to either Club or Website. the reason for this being that i have one set of functions named dbInsertClubNews etc. and one set called dbInsertWebsiteNews etc.

since the only thing that differs the functionnames apart is the text i store in $functionName, I want to merge dbInsert with $functionName and then add News at the end.

I have checked variable variables but couldn't get it to work... grateful for any help.

Why not use a simple IF statement?

if ($functionMame == 'Club')
{
// run club function
}
else
{
// runwebsite function
};

unfortunately my problem is a bit more complex(?). i have several functions specific for club and website news (actually there are more newscategories, but i don't want to make long questions that no one bothers to read 🙂. and in order to be able to extend it with even more categories it would be the easiest to do something like commonStart.specificName.commonEnding.

where the specific name is set at the top of the page and can easily be changed, added or removed.

as it looks now:
$dbCon->dbGetAdminpagesNews_IdHeaderDate();
$dbCon->dbGetClubNews_IdHeaderDate();
etc.

i would like something like
$dbCon->dbGet.specificTextHere.News_IdHeaderDate();

any ideas?

Hmmm ...

Well, you could try:

$dbCon->{"dbGet".$specificText."News_IdHeaderDate"}();

but if that doesn't work, I don't know.
