Uploaded file permissions changing

Hi there,

I have a script which uploads file(s) then chmods them to 666 so I can overwrite or delete them at will. This all works fine.

But about once every few days the permissions change to 644 which then prevents the files from being deleted. Why is this happening? I presume it is a security setting to prevent having insecure files on the system.

I am running a Raq4 with Cobalt Linux release 6.0 (and its driving me nuts)

Is that your problem? You can set your file's permissions in FTP

No - It is a php script that uploads the file (from an HTML form).

On further research it seems to be that the files are uploaded as user NOBODY. I think the server does a check periodicaly for unclaimed files and sets their privelidges to something a bit safer.

So perhaps I can change the user before storing the files, or perhaps if I set the privelidges a little lesser it will leave them alone.

(No doubt the Linux/UNIX boys will laugh at my lack of UNIX awareness - I'm a Windows man myself (boo hiss)!)
