On our in-house intranet, I would like to be able to find out if particular files and applications exist on a user's PC and what their last modified dates are.
I've searched the Forums and found lots of posts about getting file info for files on the actual web server, and several that say you can't use PHP to launch executables on the clients' PC (security mega-hole if you could.)
The manual entry for file_exists says "file to be examined must be accessible via the server's filesystem" so I think what I'd like to do may be impossible.
We have a mix of Linux webservers, Windoze file servers and client PCs and several tenacious MacHeads. I'm only looking for this capability on the "company standard" PCs.
