Capturing exact url used to enter site a

I want to capture the exact url a visitor has entered to access my site as a PHP variable;

e.g. user enters "www,drexlercollection.com" or user just enters "drexlercollection.com"

I'm a PHP newbie and could use the help.

I can't seem to find this information in any of the PHP books that I've gotten such as Beginning PHP (WROX), PHP Visually (Hungry Minds), PHP Visual Quick Start.

Since posting I have found a partial answer.

I have used $HTTP_HOST and it returns the domain name entered.

However, I get the same result whether I enter

  www.drexlercollection.com
 or drexlercollection.com

Either way, the string returned is

www.drexlercollection.com.

This is important to know because it will alter the routine I writing for parsing the string to return "drexlercollection" or whatever other strintg I'm looking for.
