Hiding files?

I don\\'t know if this is the right place to ask this, but...

I have made a php script that lists all files in a certain directory. There is some files I don\\'t want it to show, so is there a way to configure Apache server so that it hides certain files from the browser? Or does (can?) it has to be done in the php-script?

Any help would be appreciated.

if you know the names of the files or they have something in common like they all have a .inc extension then just use regexp to ferret them out of your results.

There directives in the httpd.conf that you can use to block access to files with a certain extention, but the simples method for hiding files is by not having them in that directory in the first place.

And ofcourse you can always filter them out using PHP. A simple IF statement can do that,

There are two directives you can use to do this. Place both of these things into your global web server container definition.

<Files *.inc>
Order allow,deny
Deny from all
</Files>

IndexIgnore *.inc

How can I access some root level directories for PHP files if I'm on a hosting plan?

The ISP admin is not going to let me mess with global files and so forth, yet I do need to hide a few files as well (so that they cannot be accessed, even when PHP goes down once in a while).

Any suggestions? Anyone?
