line breaks in email

Hello,
I am an ASP developer who is new to PHP. A problem I've run in to is in creating line breaks in email messages that are created by PHP. For example, in ASP, if I wanted to output this in an email message

Name: myname
Email: [e-mail]
Subscribe? Yes

I would do this:

bodyMessage = "Name: " & name & vbCrLf &
"Email: " & email & vbCrLf &
"Subscribe? " & subscribe
%>

I've done many searches on many PHP sites, and I can't find anything about this. My email still gets output like this no matter what I try:

Name: myname Email: [e-mail] Subscribe? Yes

How do I fix this?

html needs BR tags, use nl2br() to replace all newlines in a string with BR tags.

I'm also an ASP developer new to PHP and I'm having the exact same problem. I've tried everything suggested in this posting and still nothing works.

Would the fact that I'm running a Win2K server make any difference at all? I have a hard time believing that but I can't get \n to work in my code to save my life.

I have never had this problem and I have win2k and linux machines. I dont think the problem is in php. First I would check your content-type of you email. if you are sending html email you will need to the obvious tags. else, eric's vb code was outputting a cr lf or \r\n in php what client are you using?
