unable to open temporary file (repost)

So, I'm getting there with 4.0.4 easyinstall and php_gd.dll. But I'm not there yet.

I'm getting:

Warning: imagejpeg: unable to open temporary file in D:\my_website.com\www\gd.php on line 40

I've read every post I can find on the forum, but I still can't get it to work. I've seen a lot of posts, mainly regarding permissions, and I've set permissions for IUSR so that they could read/write to directories where I thought the temp files might be created, but with no luck.

I set my installation directory to:
C:\PHP as opposed to the default.

Now if I could just figure out where the image files are trying to write and or read from, maybe I could get it going.

Again, if anyone can help with this, I'm appreciative.

Okay. Answering my own question a little, but asking another.

If I code as follows:

ImageJPEG($image, 'd:\me.com\www\test.jpg');

I create an image in the specified location and I can display it using straight HTML with <img src="test.jpg">.

But looking at a past post, I got the idea I should be able to display it directly without HTML coding?

Sorry for such a basic question, but it's doing what I want now, but it doesn't seem as elegant as it should...
