Hope this isn't too far off from the purpose of phpbuilder.

I'm in the process of building a website, php and mysql driven, but need to interface with a merchant account company and a payment gateway.

Any generic help from anyone as to what I should be expecting would be greatly appreciated.

WHat you need to expect... well that depends on how the merchant account company's interface works. Most have a simple POST method form and return some POST vars on completion. quite basic.

The reason for asking is this, I talked with one that uses an outside vendor for the gateway, but they want either javascript, perl or asp...I'm not a programmer by trade 😉 just like php and have dove in head first. That leaves me out in left field for setting up perl to execute an xml statement to talk with their gateway.

Why don't you doa bit more searching, there are plenty services that use POST methods, like Barclay's. Dead simple to use.
