phplib using native object serialization

I am looking for a phplib which uses the natvie object serialization of php 4.

I've seen threads about this, but I don't know their age or current relevance - any links or info would be welcome:

1) I saw an offical looking statement that phplib would not adapt to php 4 until it was out of beta. Is this so (too bad if this is the case).

2) I also noticed several threads about independent development that had done the switch to native session handling - are any of those worth picking up? I'd rather not get stuck with a development branch that'll die in a month or so.

phplib has merged into PEAR. I strongly suggest you use PEAR instead of phplib because of this. Additionally, #1 of your question will never happen....again because of this merge.

After looking around it seems that some of phplib functionality has made it into PEAR, but unfortunately the stuff I really need (Auth) is not there yet...

The docs seems pretty sketchy too, at least I am having a difficult time getting my hands on really useful documentation.

The best stuff so far seems to be the 'peardocs' at sourceforge, but maybe I'm missing something again.

Seems like things will happen RSN though...

pear.php.net describes an auth object but I don't know how mature the code is.

I think modifying the phplib auth to work with pear won't be a big deal...you should give it a shot if you have time.

pear.php.net describes the PEAR coding conventions and a very scetchy auth module, but this seems to be the only offerings... The php-4.0.6 release does not sport any auth code so there is a bit of a disconnect here.

I do think that you are right - modifying the existing phplib code would not be so bad, I just wanted to hang off of the main development tree...
