javascript & php

My site is php based. Each page is made from separate php files. I am trying to include a javascript in one to allow me to put the date modified on the page. When it runs, it displays the current date, not the modified date. Do javascripts run in php? Any ideas? Thanks!

Why not just use PHP's filesystem functions to grab that kind of information. Look into it, you'll be happier.

Second that. If you use Javascript to do it, you are restricted to what the server is required to provide in the way of dates. Some servers (such as Netscape) are not required to provide a file date and on such servers you will get some other date instead.

I agree with the last two posts, but in case you choose the js way, you can do something like
<?
echo "<script>javascript here</script>";
?>
