image upload

is there a way to rename image's filename before uploading the file..

eg: i have a member section where member's can upload images, rather than uploading as it is.. i want to rename the image's filename to member's login id.

eg, a member is trying to upload a gif file called dot.gif.. and his member is is 101

how can i able to change the filename from dot.gif to 101.gif before uploading the image..

please help.. many thanks in advance.

Just copy it with the new name and delete the old one using copy() and unlink() functions ....

thats what i did.. doesn't work 🙁

$new_file_name = $member_id.$ext;
$path = "/data/websites/cs/images/personals/users/";

if (!copy($path, $new_file_name )) {
print ("failed to copy $filename<br>\n");
}

whats wrong with this code???

This line: if (!copy($path, $new_file_name )) {

should be: if (!copy($image, $path.$new_file_name )) {
