New Messages alert using IMAP functions

How do I get an javascript alert that says I've got new mail? (I already know how to javascript alert so don't tell me how to alert)

Use imap_status function to determine the no. of new/unseen messages. It it is greater than 0, call alert thru javascript.

Yeah.. but I'm needing to know if there is 1 new message (like there are 3 messages and 1 more)

That should be easily possible. I think the manual says something like

$status = imap_status(link, folder, all) or something like that.

So $status->new should give u the no. of new messages.

Check the manual (definitely the online manual has something like this)
