Editor of Choice

I was wondering what was everybody's editor of choice? I haven't done much web work for a while and have been using just a text editor (Notepad) on windows and emacs on linux. I was thinking about buying Dreamweaver UltraDev, but I wanted to know if they it supported php well.

Any thoughts on Dreamweaver, or your html editor of choice?

Get an edit with syntax highlighting, that's all you need.

If your looking for more of a PHP-IDE, with debugging features, syntax highlighting, CodeInsight, etc. I suggest you check out PHPEdit (www.phpedit.com)

editplus is a great text editor...

When I did a lot of ASP programming, I used Macromedia Homesite. To my pleasant surprise, when I switched to PHP, I found that Homesite has PHP syntax highlighting. You also get project management utilities (as in organization of documents, not Gantt charts), HTML validation, and if you really need it, there is also a WYSIWYG editor.

Pound for pound, I would say Homesite is the best general editor out there.

That's so weird. Back a couple months ago when I started programming Visual Basic I was actually creating a program called PHPEdit...in a horrible attempt at it I decided to give up...how odd.

Homesite is very nice, especially the HMTL utilities like tag validation and the popup-tag editor. (which also auto-formats your tags to add quoes etc) Very nice.

But for a lightweight, fast and simple editor, you can't beat editplus.

I don't think you were the only person to come up with 'PHPed' for a name, just like I was #245 to think of 'PHPfaq' for an FAQ site. I ended up calling it YAPF.(Yet Another PHP FAQ)
