Php just isn't working!

I've installed RedHat 7.2, included apache and PHP in the install straight from the CD's.

i run apache, and test a page with a simple, one-line php command in it. (just a print string)

the page loads, I get the title bar alright, but no PHP text is displayed.

any ideas?

Do you have a phpinfo page? You need a page that has just:
<?
phpinfo();
?>
if php is working correctly it will show you.

I guess i'll go get the rpm again and re-install php? or should there have been another step to perform after red hat's install to actually enable php?

doesn't really make sense to me... if I installed it, shouldn't it be working? (rhetorical...)

First off the server isn't even loading for me. Another thing is you have it named with a .html extension and it is very uncommon or almost rare to never parsed this way.

First I would make sure you have it named with a .php extension. If that doesn't work go to webmonkey.com and visit the PHP 4 installation overview since you will need to edit the configs for you web server to parse them.

Ooooops. had some ftp problems, and was fiddling around with that, decided to restart the box, and forgot to turn on httpd again. my apologies. I don't have the box set 'just the way i want it' yet, so nothing is starting on boot at this point.

well it's up, and the phpinfo page now has a .php extension. all it does is show the code for the page.

i'm heading over to php4 now... thanks for the help.

any other thoughts would be appreciated!
