mail() taking too long to execute

I just installed my server running Mandrake 8.1 and I'm having some difficulties with the mail() function in php. Is taking too long to execute. I don't know why is this. Could be something related to the php or sendmail or anything else?

I have a simple test here that sends a email to me. The actual function is printed after executed for you to see.

Can anyone help me on this?

mail() is very slow.

Search the code-library for user-function that connect directly to a mailserver. That is much quicker.

But anyway is not normal to take this long to execute. What could be causing this?

It's just one of those things: mail is a crap function. don't spend your time worry about it, just use something else. 🙂

But the strange thing is that on other server it works much faster. See the same script here:

If you notice this example of the same script loaded much faster. Even when my other server has a faster CPU and more memory. That's what worries me.

We can go on about it all day, mail() just is a wonky function, don't use it.
