CHM is a self-contained Win32 help file format, the PHP docs can be downloaded off php.net in this format.

Unfortunately I've never gotten it to work on my Win2K box, it keeps causing an unhandled exception according to Dr. Watson.... for what that's worth🙂 I'd say you best bet is to download the manual in HTML format, then place it in a folder somewhere in the filesystem of your dev. server. That's what I do and it works fine for me.... the searchability would be nice though.

Well I just downloaded the latest version from PHP.net (http://www.php.net/distributions/manual/manual-en.chm) and it works fine.

I've alwyas used the chm version, from when I had winme, and now I just got xp, and downloaded it a few days back. Seems Dr Watson needs to be shown the recycle bin... 😉

Well, there's no doubt that Dr. Watson is a useless piece of garbage..... but then again I can't think of one WinDoze error message or debugger that actaully contains useful info, so that's par for the course. The real problem isn't Dr. Watson, it's that ever so buggy and dodgy MS Help File reader.

The solution? Grab a copy of the HTML docs and write a script which index's the directory storing it in a db for quick searching. You even learn more that way, plus (when it's done) I can also apply it to the Apache, MySQL, PostgreSQL, GTK, Ruby, etc. doc's that also also on my local dev. server🙂
