Hello all.
This is a long shot but its worth a try. Im (trying) to write a paper on normalisation, but am not having much luck, was wondering if there was anyone out there who might be able to help me please?
Below is the first part of what has been asked of me, any help that can be provided would be very useful.
Thankyou Ann Burch
with the possibility of haveing an access database to record the location of products within bothe warehousing and distribution and manufacturing to avoid problems related problems. It is noted that they can describe each of the places where a product is stored at any one time as a zone and each zone has a code and description. For example
Zg1 General zone, warehousing, no1
Zg2 General zone, warehousing, no2
Zf2 frozen zone, warehousing, no 2
Zm1 manufacturing zone, no1
to furthere clarify movements of stock, they have mapped the various areas they are responsible for as 'locations'. Each location encompasses several zones. Examples of location codes adn their descripeions are:
Lwe East section of warehouse (inlcudes zg2 adn Zg3)
Lms southe section of manufacturing (includes zones Zm1 and Zm3)
Tehy hav decided that their accrss database should be based on a large table described by the following table type:
ProductLocation (Pcode, ZoneCode, Quantity, Pdescription, Zone Description, LocationCode, LocationDescription)
Your task is to convince them of the inadequacy of this approach.
Explain the process of normalisation to tehm, with illustrations drawn from their particular application. Give an example of the tabe productLocation, with sample data adn show how the structure they have chosen leads to problems for them. Show how these problems can be removed by changing the structure. Finally produce an accrss version of the database. and describe this database.
