Upload status?

IM using a php upload script for uploading Mp3's
is there a way to have some sort of status bar
so the user knows how the upload is going?

if you were using a java based client to handle the actual upload, you could probably do it then.

I think I found a way to do it
by opening a pop up window with a php script
thats reading the file size in the temp directory
then refreshes every 5 seconds. SO far its just theroy
if anyone has done this let me know.

Which file in the temp?
You don't know which filename PHP used untill the upload is finished.
The same goes for the filesize, you don't know what 100% is untill you know what the final size should be, and again that is not available untill the file is uploaded completely.

This has been asked a few times before, perhaps other people have found an answer to this question (which is solved if you used FTP instead of HTTP in the first place)
