detect cursor in a textbox?

Hi,

hope someone can help with this. Is it possible to detect where the cursor is in a ordinary textbox, and then use that as the point of reference for inserting code?

I am trying to build a simple and intuitive online editing area for our website, but need to insert bold tags, links to other pages etc. I thought that the best way to do it would be to insert the code into a texbox, so that the user has complete control of bold, italics etc.

Maybe there is already something like this out there, if anyone knows of it?

This might be able to be done with Javascript (I doubt it though), PHP knows nothing of where a users mouse is or text he puts in the box (unless its submited), or wether or not hes picking his nose.. etc... if you want to know somewhat what the client is doing You need to use Javascript. The nose pick object is:

location.nose.isPicking();

(Its late and Im studying for finals so anything is funny right now 🙂 ).
