cookies please please help fairly urgent

im having a problem with cookies (who doesnt?)

im need to set a cookie with a users id in it but i dont find out the users id until later in the script, this is too late because the headers have already loaded???

can anyone please help me???

Is it not possible run the script without outputting anything allowing the cookie to be set, and then when it is set, start the output?

I often put a tiny script in that is never visible (no output), but does some processing, sets a cookie & then redirects to another page.

Please give more deatils if this doesn't get you headed in the right direction.
