Find one that's already available that is close to your needs and install it. Then simply make modifications as necessary.

Creating your own forum/board system from scratch is alot more effort then its worth.

Yeah it migth be very difficult, it depends on your needs, but if you are doing for the first time and you want to learn it is really worth because it is a really dynamic aplication, I've just finished my first forum in spanish and it works fine but there are many features I want to implement, but they will be in the next version. if you want a forum in php look at:

I want to do it and I can't use existing Phorums.
I want to make a Forum excatly like the one PHPBUILDER>com has.
I have desgined my database and I am thinking on the lines of on retriving the data(Main Questions and its replies) in a chain like form which is a bit tricky.

The book PHP, MySQL WEB DEVELOPMENT has a great phorum with reply, but they use object oriented programing and. It is very similar to this one but there are a few features that it has.

Designing a good web based message board for light use isn't overly complex. The real issues arrise from getting one that runs affectively under extremely high loads (exceess of 500,000 page views per day).

My experience so far is that this is alot tougher then it sounds.

If anyone knows of any articles or books that cater to performance tuning tips for php, please let me know. 🙂 I'm in the process of gearing up for my 3rd board implementation using php and SQL Server on the backend.

Thanks for u advice.
We have desgined th datbase for it and I have had the output echoed 😉.
The way i want the chain to be formed i.e reply to a reply or coming from the parent chain etc. all the combinations are tested.
Now we have system so using that I have to implemnet it.
