Where do you code your PHP applications?

Its very interesting to know where people code there php applications.
Usually its notepad or html editor.

But what many dont know is that a program called codephp is up and free to download.
Please post a reply and tell me where you make your php applications.

Editplus and FTPedit offer syntax highlighting and the like, but more importantly, they have an integrated FTP server so when you save, it goes directly to the webserver.

New version of FTPEdit looks promising too. Contains entire list of functions ... kind of like visual basic's formatting. You start to type a function and it brings it up in a listbox above the text. As it brings up the function, it gives a list of parameters.
I prefer EditPlus' interface, however.

Notepad is the everpresent backup. Simple and functional ... very unlike most macrohard products.

I like vi, but occasionally use emacs. On windows, it's tough to beat homesite mainly for its file managing capabilities.

Editplus, it's the only way to fly.

I looked at codephp for a few minutes, looks like editplus in the very early years. Simple syntax highlighting, the basic functions, nothing extraordinary. Certainly no where near usable yet.

It is a good start, but I suggest you have a good long hard look at what other editors can do, and at what cost, and decide if it is really worth it to spend lots of time in creating 'yes another' editor that basically already exists.

I'm an Editplus fan myself. Everything is color coded and it's full of great features. Using control-shift-s to instantly FTP your work to the server is the biggest time saver out there.

You can also open the file directly via FTP.
Then just pressing 'save' automatically ftp's it too. Very nice indeed.

EditPlus is definitely the way to go. I have only one issue with it.

I use a black background with light text so my eyes don't smoke and burn inside my head after staring at my screen for a dozen hours.

The problem is that while just about all the syntax colors can be customized, some bits cannot such as quotation marks, semi-colon and some other operators. Dark red on black isn't the clearest combination.

Any suggestions?

EditPlus - best I've found so far. People say I should check out UltraEdit, but I haven't gotten around to it. Only gripe with ep is I wish it knew when you're in/out of php tags so it doesn't auto-insert for's, while's, etc. when entering regular text.

I use editor that's part of MC (Midnight Commander). It is very simple, but offers no highlighting except for languages like C, C++, Java.

I tried PHPEdit, and it looks good -> the only problem is that it's for windoz. I need one for linux.

I like to use VIM in windows.
It's got great syntax highlight and overall a great text editor.

this is definitely a plug for software as the author of this thread hasn't responded to any of you.

that said, i find that codephp is not worth a look at since very little is said about it on the website!

It has just been very interesting to see what people use to program with.

Codephp's new upgrade will be simular to what you request it to have (f.e.g. FTP and things like that)

And more information will be specified for our product. On the website!

Hi,

I tried to use codephp. It's a good software. But why I can't preview it? It views the plain html. But after I put some php codes, it display nothing for php.
Do I need to run special things or to install something first?

How can you preview PHP code? you can only execute it on a server.

I see a lot of people using EditPlus. Me, I've been using NuSphere's version of PHPEd (yeah, I bought it, but at least they send me upgrades in the mail 🙂 ).

The current version does all the handy dandy highlighting (and you can customize all the colors, even the punctuation), FTP, WebDAV (I've got mod_dav installed on my server), and CVS support (which is what I've been looking for for a while). Now I can check out the modules I'm working on and commit them without having to load up WinCVS or use TortoiseCVS (which is pretty nice).

PHPEd also comes with a full install of apache, perl, php, mysql and some webapps for windows or unix. It's a nice package, though PHPEd is a bit kludgy at times. I recommend it if you are doing PHP development full time, the project management and CVS support is nice.

On the server side, if I need to do some quick scripting, I'll just load up pico or nano and code away.

Anyone use anything really good on Unix (X Windows)?
