Hi,

Pardon me for my ignorance. I am very curious how PHP will recognise the functions added in the GD library?

I've downloaded the GD library source code and it seems the functions are some sort like gdImageDestroy, but PHP calls them ImageDestroy.

How do the PHP and GD library link together, for PHP to recognise the GD functions?

When you install GD, you need to recompile PHP to recognize that. All the PHP functions do is reference functions from the GD library. There's a one-to-one deal there, so if you call ImageDestroy() through PHP, it just calls the gdImageDestroy() function. Think of the PHP ImageDestroy() function as a pointer or reference to the actual one contained in the GD library.

Thanks for the explanation. May I know whether there is a file which does this mapping, or PHP will automatically recognised with the functions beginning with gd as GD calls?

If I add a new function to the GD library and starts with gd, eg. gdFunctionA, will I be able to call from PHP as FunctionA, just by recompiling PHP, or is there any other place that I need to explicitly define this interface?

I'm not sure, I never tried to add new functions... Take a look at the php source 😛
