Is it possible at all?

Thank you.

    No.
For static IPs you can take a wild guess by looking up the IP with NIC.com's database but that will only return you (only sometimes) the address of owner and host for that IP.
However this gives no definite information about where the actual server is located.

For dynamic IPs you're completely screwed.

Reads very interesting but actually it doesn't seem to work.
I'm from Aachen, Germany, online from a static IP, hostname of IP being nat.region-aachen.de.
Taking a closer look at the hostname one would guess this would be a rather easy case.

Still I keep getting english language versions of sites that claim to use quova for just that.

      Heres a quote from randstad.com:

Quova recognises the IP-address (the Internet address) of your Internet Service Provider. Quova has a database containing 4.25 billion IP-addresses, linked to data about the origin of the providers with these IP-addresses. Thus we can determine in which country and in which region the provider is located.
      (end quote)

Can anyone point out a working example? I'd be impressed with static IPs even but what I believe Nicolay wanted is to see this with dynamic IPs.

Here is one of the best tools that I have seen yet! You can identify the geographical location of any IP address, and even identify the source of Spam emails.

They have a free online demo or you can download there trial version, its worth the look!

Sorry to dig up a really old topic but is this possible yet? I know google Google Analytics can pinpoint where my site traffic is coming from...
