flash the title of a window

Is it possible to flash the title of a window, similar to the AOL IM program? ... I know sometimes when viewing a webpage and it will flash .. but I've never been able to determine a pattern.

This is not server side functionality, thus cannot be done with PHP.

And for what it's worth, I think most people find anything that flashes to be annoying.

obviously ........ but this is general help. I thought that perhaps updating the title of the window through javascript or something would do it.. and someone else here would know more.

Yes, you're right . . . it is general help. But you'll have better luck getting answers by asking your javascript questions in a javascript forum.

I wasn't trying to be rude but there are a lot of people that post client side questions on phpbuilder that don't seem to understand the difference between client side and server side. And when people ask for client side help, they are usually met with directed to places like javascripts.com or some such thing . . . not answers to their questions.

Well, if you use IM ... you and you have the windows minimized... and you get a message, the title bar down by the start menu would flash.

I have also seen a browser window do this, but I have not figured out why. Something to do with when it is minimized, something happens in the browser, which makes it flash. That is what I was asking if anyone knew anything about.

Aaaah, I'll have a think about that, it's like it's saying: "I don't have the focus but I've finished the loading, processing and I'm ready now!".

I don't use AOL but if it's a browser rather than a custom app then it should be do-able. I have no idea what IM is so I'm running blind here.

One trick I have is to save the page I want into my temp folder and it takes most of the javascript with it. I then pore over all the code until I find something hopeful. I then create a test page and see what the code does. If it's good, great otherwise I start over.

Sorry, IM is AOL's Instant Messenger. I am not sure if Microsofts messenger is the same or not.
