Page breaks in HTML

I'm creating a PHP and MySQL-based application that requires the generation of printable reports and invoices.

Does anyone know of a way to ensure that the report page will print properly on one 8.5x11 page? Do I limit the page to a certain width with a table?

the 'pagebreakbefore' property works all the way back to like 3.0 browser i think... i used it a few years ago on a research site.

you STILL can't count on things coming out right though, the web just wasn't meant for printing.

Have you thought about generating pdf files? It's what I do in almost the exact situation, and not only does it "look nice", I also have a hard electronic copy....

There are also some CSS tips n' tricks (@media: <type>) that could be of use.

Not cause I've tested it myself, but its on the W3.org site. And as Michael wrote... It's www, not meant for paper.

Generating PDF files is a fabulous idea, actually. Where can I get more information on how to do that?
