I would recommend going to
http://www.phptown.com/
See the second book down? The white and purple one? Buy it. Read it. With that book, I was able to learn PHP and write my site (which admittedly isn't great but it works how I want it to,) in one week. Oh, I also asked several questions to this forum when I had problems with MySQL or something, and the folks here, especially Vincent, were very helpful. Some things to take into account though when you're asking questions- be as specific as possible. If you ask "My site doesn't work, what's wrong with it?" you won't get a lot of help. On the other hand, if you say "I'm trying to create a script that will... <whatever it's trying to do,> and it's generating this error <copy and paste the error> can someone help please?" then you're in business. Other things- try to do your own research first. php.net has a manual that will tell you how all the commands are supposed to work. For example, if you're having a problem with using is_uploaded_file (my current pet peeve,) you can go to http://www.php.net/is_uploaded_file and bang, you've got instructions (and sometimes user comments) on how to use that command. And with that, you should have some places to start. Bon chance!
