Weird Apache Problems

Hello.

what ever i do, i just can't seem te be succefull in making a 404 errorpage.
i tried everything i could find on the internet like:

i uploaded a .htaccess file to the root containing :

ErrorDocument 404 http://www.sexmettieners.nl/404redirect.html

it did'nt work

and i also tried it with httpd.conf containing:

ErrorDocument 404 /index.html

it did'nt work either.

what am i dooing wrong?
can anybody help me?
