Image size in propotion ??

Hello All,

We have got so many images with DIFFERENT size, I mean, The height and the width of the images can be vary, So waht I want to do is ..

First I want to display these images into thumbnail form, and my problem is ..When I fix the size of image to display it into thumbnail form, because of dimentional disorder PICTURES look very ugly. I have seen on some sites that even when they display their thumbnail which is automaticaly created from the original big image, it looks good.

I know that for each image I will have to set the propotion , But i do not know how..for examle if i have got an Image with 500x456 size how it would set into 100x100 frame without loosing it's clearty ??

I suspect that some of these other sites create the thumbnails using proper graphics editors which will do a better job than any browser could.

If that sounds like hard work then...
Using php you can query the dimensions of a graphic and then just scale the larger dimension to 100 and the other to what ever it would be. In your example 100x100 would be distorted so you'd want it to be 100x?

You can use getimagesize function to get the size image and reduce the size in proporation. If you have the GD library loaded you could even recreate a thumb nail version of the image on your server.

Actually I am not talking about 100 or 200 images and all images are being uploaded by users, so it is not possible to convert all the images in to thumbnails.. I know that We can make it into propotion.. but still trying to slove.. I know someone knows that..

I have done it myself.. If anybody need code to make image in propotion..I will be pleased to give.

check out the man pages for ImageMagick. You can run a shell script that resizes the images. Look into mogrify and convert. Works great and nice image results.
