Take all line and make one.

Hi.

I've got a lil problem I cannot solve.

Can someone tell me how to take the lines
from a textfile and put them together to
just one long line with the Break-Tag
where the lines ended.

I mean, take:

This
are
lines

and make:

This are lines

If you can help me, thank you very much!!!

Just use:

$fp = fopen('filename.txt', 'r');
$file = fread($fp, filesize('filename.txt'));
fclose($fp);

$file = nl2br($file);

The problem is, that the line break still
exists. The nl2br function just inserts
the tag, but doesn't remove the break.

I also tried
ereg_replace ("\n", " ", $text);
but the same think happens.

I think every line must be read in and
then be put together with the -Tag,
but I don't know how to do it.

You have an idea?

Sorry, I forgot that you wanted tags instead of '\n'.

In that case

$fp=fopen("file1.txt", "r");
$content=fread($fp, filesize("file1.txt"));
fclose($fp);

$content=explode("\n", $content);
$content=implode(" ", $content);

Thank you for your ideas...
but it still doesn't work.

There are still new lines
even if the php script
deletes the \n at the end
of the lines.

I have no idea, why.

I couldn't figure out why ereg_replace doesn't work. This does seem to do it:

$fp=fopen("test.php", "r");
$content = fread($fp, filesize("test.php"));
fclose($fp);
$content = split("\n",$content);
while (list($x,$c) = each($content) ) {
echo chop($c) . " ";
}

Just use str_replace()

$file = str_replace("\n", " ", $file);

OK, then howzabout putting the lines into an array (1 line per index) and them implode() the array ? that'll do it for ya.

I tried str_replace, ereg_replace, preg_replace and lots of other things. For some reason they didn't work completely (at least on Windows/PWM, I didn't test on LINUX/Apache). Was really odd, the newline character was gone, but the lines still echo'd out on separate lines instead of all together on one long line. I suspect there was an EOL character or something else MS stuck in there but the chop got rid of whatever it was.

$line = implode(" ",$lines_array);
