Mysterious Script problem

Just so you know what the PHP looks like:

If I access the page directly there's no value returned (which is normal) but if you add ?id=1 the page disappears.

The tech guys who run the servers don't know what's wrong, but the script seems to terminate with the PHP, however I'm not entirly sure. It should also be noted that they just set up new servers today.

For one the top should look like this..

$sql = "SELECT question
FROM poll
WHERE id='$id'";
also i dont see the var connection being set, or even a db being selected
