PHP Thumbnails without boutell

I'm using a hosting services who's PHP Build does not include the GD library from Boutell (ImageCreate(),ImageCopyResized(),ImageJPEG(), etc.) and would like to be able to make a thumbnail from an uploaded fullsize JPEG file. I've searched the net for a simply program I could call once for an image with arguments for: my source image location, target image location, target image dimensions, target image quality... but I can't find anything out there?

Anyone got a great way to make a thumbnail without the GD library from Boutell under PHP?

try to install ImageMagick package
http://www.imagemagick.org

has a programm called convert'
with exec() or system() function in PHP you have to call something like:convert -geometry MAX_WxMAX_H old.img new.img'
