PHP book

I want to learn PHP, but there are so many books out there, so I thought I'd better ask here for people's experiences. (I've searched for it but encountered a post from 2000 regarding a 1999 book so I thought I'd start a topic for this) I'm a real beginner to PHP, but a starter in Java, so I kinda know what programming involves, but it'd be best to learn from the start. Thanks!

I haven't found anything better than the docs available at http://www.php.net/docs.php.

if you are new to programming and to php, i would suggest you start with the php bible. it lays out a very good ground work and how to do the basics. once you get a foot hold, the docs on php.net are all you really need.

Well, PHP Bible is ok, if you want to learn MySQL with php, than i definitely recommend Welling and Thomas PHP and MySQL Web Development, and WROX's Professional PHP Programming.

I found the PHP bible to be an ok reference book, but it lacks real world examples and exercises for my tastes.
