get the disk free space

I realize there is a function disk_free_space but I only have PHP 4.0.0 ...and that function is only available in 4.1 and greater

So...

Is there a way I can get the free diskspace in another way? I can do a shell command (linux) ... df -m ... but that returns a long line of information... I'm looking for a command that will echo a number so I can use:

$free_space = df -m;

I am not a unix command guru... but it shouldn't be too difficult to extract just the MB free

Any ideas?

.. i would shell, and issue the df command and just parse out the info you need, PHP has very powerful string manpulation functions so it shouldn't be much of a problem to grab the info you need. I believe there is a shell command that will return the info without printing it to the screen.
