Q about editing/creating html files

Hey, thanks for your time

For example, to use a script where you can edit an existing html page in a directory, does the php page that does the dirty work need to be chmod 755?

Is there a prerequisite chmod I need for that directory where the editing/creating of files in that directory take place?

Just curious

I have found some great open source software that is suppossed to allow editing of html/text files, and creation of such, but permission is denied

And I emailed the users, but received no reply (Which is fine)

So I am just asking out of curiousity

Any page that creates or edits another page or anyother file needs to have read and write access to the directory at least. If the webserver is the owner of a directory then 7xx would do it but you have to be careful not to leave the permissions set so someone else can execute commands in your directories a better value is 660 read and write for owner and group but no one else can do anything.
