get mac OS version

Is there a way to get the OS version they are running on a Mac? OS 7, 8, 9, X, etc?

Using the $HTTP_USER_AGENT you can only find out whether its a PPC or 64k Mac. Post a question on an apple developers forum and they might be able to help you more.
