Running a PHP script from MySQL

Hey,

Just written a script that I found will need something I don't know how to do, or even if it is possible. (I'm still learning)

I have made a script that retrieves HTML from a record in a MySQL database and displays it in the user's browser... The problem is, I need to put a PHP script in one of the records of HTML inside the MySQL database... The problem is, I don't know how (or if it is possible) to run the PHP script contained in the retrieved record.

Any help on this subject would be very much appreciated 🙂

No, I think we're still talking about PHP.

Insert your PHP code into your DB just like you do with plain HTML. Then open the PHP manual and have a look at the eval() function.

From that point on, you're on your own. Code executed with eval() requires a lot of special care in the syntax. I tried to implement it once and realized that I just don't know how to use it correctly. I hope you're not as dumb as I am. :-)

An easier way to do this would be to store file names in the database and "include" as needed. Then php will merrily parse and run any script it finds. What you are trying to do is re-invent the "include" statement by including db rows instead of files.

This might be a problem if you have more than a few hundred different rows in the database, but then I think you need to examine your design.
