I want to write a scritp to run every day that will email me the contents of my logs and then clear them or even archive them.
then display a html page saying it's completed or failed and what failed if it did.

can php do command line calls, does perl?

running on a 2k server so doing a chron or something like that isnt an option though it would be easier. also using apache 1.3.23

Yes, both languages can do system calls. For adminstrative stuff, I generally write scripts in PERL. I am more comfortable using PERL's regexes. Are you sure that you want to email your logs? A busy site can generate alot of logs. Parsing them to generate a report might be the way to go, Then after parsing, rotate them out.

There is an NT equivalent to cron, type 'at ?' on the commandline to find out more.

my thoughts were to have it at midnight rotate and email me the logs. since my mail server and web are next to eachother on a fast network I dont see it as a problem. Thank you for the at command, I didnt know that existed and that should work for me.
